What happens here
This project details the installation and testing of a MayWes Ride Tamer front suspension system on a zero-turn mower. The goal is to significantly improve ride quality over rough terrain and gravel, reducing vibration and operator fatigue. The video demonstrates the difference before and after installation through visual tests involving a cup of water and driving over varied surfaces.

(13,116 characters)oh look at that camera's already off filter that didn't take long all right Nancy congratulations on having one of the worst driveways I've been on in a [Music] while ah look at that night and day difference rocks divot rocks divot rocks do you get the idea that I'm trying to accentuate the fact that this driveway is a washboard I had to retighten them because we were hitting so many bumps and it just vibrated everything loose and then I'm going down the road and I'm talking like this inste of your back going boom boom boom it's you're just kind of going along for the ride you're flowing oh there you are good morning one and all today we're going to be testing want a brand new lawnmower mod now this is a bolt on attachment that simply connects to the front of your machine and it's designed to smooth out the jarring so it's going to take out all of them little tiny vibrations and it's going to smooth out the bigger hits but without wasting more time let's just check out what we're going to be getting into now before we put this on my machine what are we actually looking at this is a suspension system for just the front correct axles right nothing for the back no just for the front axles uh um trailing arms dampener setups um there's different some some are softer some are harder so you can adjust the ride on it but this is not a universal system it's not a one and you're done you can't just order it and stick it on from one more to another more to another more so you guys actually manufactur these per making model of mower correct correct yep okay so if a guy knows his mower he can just order it through May West yep all right well let's uh let's let's pull my we off let's go find some nasty conditions let's see yeah let's see how it does and then let's install it and go from there sounds good so while the boys start assembling the front control arms I'm going out and scouting some of the worst locations at ny's property that I can find to drive over and luckily I don't have to look very far [Music] [Applause] [Music] all right Nancy congratulations on having one of the worst driveways I've been on in a while beening for for mowing right for mowing it's like a washboard it's actually not bad I don't get me wrong but for this video just the driveway alone it's like this but instead of of just saying what it is I'm going to drive down it and I want you just kind of go along with me you're nope there you go Nancy's the camera person for May West and she doesn't know what the front of the camera is which is the front and the back how does this work again that's not a GoPro all right so before we modify the mower in any way shape or form we're just going to take it down the road and see exact exactly how bad this is and hopefully be able to do a before and after and see if this suspension system lives up to its name which is the ride tamer [Music] so right here is where things get interesting rocks divot rocks divot rocks divot rocks rock rock rock rock rock rock this driveway is a washboard so it's what happens when you have a gravel driveway and you plow it or do whatever it starts to do this sort of thing we're going to take the ride Tamer over it but before we do that before we install this ride Tamer let's just see if we can't figure out a way to really show visually show how bad this driveway is do we have a bucket of water or something we could get get Nancy I like to mount one on the front of the lawnmower yeah I the sweet Nancy would the ride Tamer do anything on something like that it's it's going to help kind of smooth out those blows so as as you watch it you can kind of watch it kind of take that spring out so it's not like bouncing and jolting back at you so so instead of being like a trampoline it's more like being on a boat yeah right instead of going ding ding ding ding ding like that that that vibration getting transmitted through your back more yeah exactly exactly all right well let's let's see how it goes all right so I'm going to have you I'm going to have Nancy take over in the camera over there and I'm just going to go through this once or twice without the ride Tamer first so let's just see how she goes and then yeah I mean the concept with this whole thing is just to make it a smoother ride on the operator right again all right not trying to pick on Nancy or her yard but we did need a pretty bad place to test this out and she does have the perfect test grounds and as we're going down our uh driveway here we can see the uh May West boys hard at work there they are doing what they do best keeping that lawn chair in place as we go down this uh driveway right here I'm just talking to you right now so you can kind of hear just how bad and rough the conditions are out here and uh I'm going to try to make sure I go over the same path over and over again once we get the ride tamer in but I think it's time to install that thing right now and um see if it makes a big how much of a difference it make are you guys done with your breake yet okay they're ready May West boys are ready to go so once the manufacturer knows which machine you're going to be retrofitting with the ride Tamer they tune it up before they ship it out that way you know you're getting the right set of dampeners for the right piece of equipment now in the beginning what we noticed was that the the ride was a little stiffener until those bushings broke in and found their sweet spot so let me show you how you make that adjustment on the Fly until they slide right in and out yeah that's how you adjust your ride height your ride quality is that all the way up Eric so that so basically what you're doing with this Mach with with this system is you're taking a wheel that has zero nothing I mean it's just a bolt on a wheel and the rubber of the wheel and now you're putting in a dampening system between that right there I mean you have nothing no suspension on the front of these units and these work for uh Zero Turn Mowers ride on mowers stand on mowers not just not just this one all right another thing not only can you adjust how your ride responds but you can also adjust the ride height right there's uh three different holes down here yep plus this on here you can adjust the height and level from side to side with it okay all right so now we have the softest dampeners in right now all right so let's give this a shot same road same everything this is a this is where we're getting into that rough spot so I'm going to just do some talking while I'm riding here last time you can hear it my voice you can see it you can hear the equipment rattling you can see everything shaking the water's not bouncing out of the bowl right now I'm going in the exact same spot I was before the deck last time you could hear that deck pounding against the frame now what you're hearing is the sound of uh it's the sound of my voice but let's put her let's put her right down let's put the camera right down by the water and see what she does I'm changing nothing else that's my spot all right let's go check this out right here you guys this is where last time I was driving the water was spilling all over and you couldn't even hear me because the deck was rattling and my voice was shaking and going up and down now it's not now we're calm tool and collected all right I'm handing the camera over to Nancy we're going to film this again same spot same every day I got my water a look at that main day difference here's the worst part of the washp right here rocks divits rocks divits everything I'm not changing anything I'm doing not speeding up I'm not going it feel night and day difference yeah yeah yep boy you can tell I mean there you go if you're thirsty Matt little extra water for you all right but we have to uh we're not going to be mowing a gravel driveway so let's head back to where it got nasty we were doing some of them deeper divots and let's see what it does if we're going to be able to the reason I like the gravel driveway though just so you guys know is because visually you you're not nothing is hidden everything is wide out in the open and I want you guys to see this and make your own determination if you think this is working or not my two cents is at this point is the machine sound quieter to you guys y not as bouny you don't hear that the deck hitting the frame no cling no no clanging so um this long Tak out of it the what the chatter alone just on this rock driveway has been taken out of that right yep um and that's going to you know extend your equipment life and also help your operators come in and not be so dang beat up I mean uh maybe you guys are young and nothing hurts you but when I run a skid loader I get out of it and I feel like I would just win a couple rounds with Mike Tyson after 10 hour day right yeah you know what I mean and riding on a lawnmower all day long some of these guys they don't like it I mean now they can if you don't like you know if you don't you're not a standup mower guy you're not stuck putting these on a standup mower you can put it on a green mower that's a sit down over there any any zero turn more Toro skag MH so U right now we have kits available for approximately 75 different models so while we're while we're talking about this before we go hit the big stuff what does it cost what do a what does a kit like this usually go for that paperwork you can you can always tell when you talk to guys that are more engineers and installers they never know the price I don't know what we sell these for I just know what the the spec is on how much vibration it'll take out and what the reduction in the blah blah blah will got to say it again Matt these guys say the best stuff afterward all right all right so what is it Matt you got to charge more for the John Deere guys cuz they seem to like to pay more for the same thing oh I know that feeling all right let's go hit some big holes [Music] now all right I got Nancy running my mower for Me 3 2 1 go for it so I asked Nancy to slow this down because I wanted to show you guys how the wheel kind of searches for the ground it has two bushings inside of the housing itself but the wheel will actually release like it's trying to follow the Contours of the ground so instead of it just hitting all at once the wheel just lets go tries to grab as much ground as possible before it brings the wheel back up into the housing all right let's go look at uh the deep hole we have all right we're going to hit this bad boy right here this is the one where I first found you guys lounging down in here so I'm noticing already what what what the ride Tamer is doing is two things it's not just a single action suspension system what I'm seeing is it's a dual action so now I've got it so that the wheel is at its highest point but as the wheel comes down it's that softening the blow and then the rubber pucks inside take it to the next level so it's almost a two-stage uh system not just a single stage yeah it really takes that jolting out of the out of the ride that's like the difference between jumping on a trampoline and riding on a boat yep I mean it's just instead of boom boom boom instead of your back going boom boom boom it's you're just kind of going along for the ride you're flowing it depends who's operating the boat but uh it's good to see how well this thing works um I'm convinced I am I mean just from that alone the water test over on the road showed it the the jarring the fatigue on the machine um I mean off camera off camera dy's yard pretty much took my battery connectors out I had to retighten them because we were hitting so many bumps and it just vibrated everything loose and then I'm going down the road and I'm talking like this now none of that that's all gone and you know Stanley why we keep our driveway so bumpy just for me just for you but also we like to keep the roof raft in her husband Dave's not allowed out Dave's like help he's in the we looking through the window help dirt monkey get me out of here um Nancy what's your website it's uh May west.com maywest May west.com Doom okay and you can find them there and the price is $6.49 per set $649 per set yes regardless of what equipment you're running it's a flat rate price for everything that is correct you can dial in your ride height so it's got multiple settings as well for ride height so as we're looking at this this sets your ride height so you can set the rake for your mower for your deck as well and if you change your tires whatever you do cuz some people do they change your tires they change the front brackets they change this they change that this allows you to compensate so it's got multiple adjustment points on it as well but that's it for this video I'm I'm leaving Brown Brownton Brownton Brownton br I'm leaving Brownton I'm leaving ny's yard and I am going to see you guys in the next video and one last time if you guys want this they go to May west.com May west.com God bless go get him you guys we'll see you on another one stay safe and easy riding brothers and sisters easy riding [Music]
