What happens here

After all pavers are laid, edge restraints are secured, and any structures like steps and fire pits are complete, sweep polymeric sand generously over the entire paver surface. Use a stiff-bristled broom to work the sand deeply into all the paver joints, ensuring every gap is filled. Once the joints are filled, use a leaf blower or soft broom to remove any excess sand from the paver surface. Next, use a plate compactor with a protective rubber pad (or a carpet remnant) placed between the compactor and the pavers. Make several passes over the entire paved area to vibrate the polymeric sand further into the joints and to firmly seat the pavers into the bedding sand. Sweep more polymeric sand into any joints that have settled and compact again if necessary. Finally, lightly mist the entire paved area with water according to the polymeric sand manufacturer's instructions. This activates the binding agents in the sand, causing it to harden and lock the pavers securely in place, preventing weed growth and insect infestation.

Goal: Lock the pavers in place, stabilize the surface, and create a weed-resistant and durable finish.

Tools and materials
