In this video

Then, emery cloth is used to sand the outside of the pipe until it is shiny and free of oxidation. The inside of the brass fitting is also cleaned with a wire brush. Finally, flux is applied with a brush to both the outside of the copper pipe and the inside of the brass fitting to facilitate solder flow and prevent oxidation during heating.
