To either increase or decrease the water pressure, use a wrench on the adjusting bolt at the very top of the regulator. To increase pressure, turn the bolt clockwise. To decrease pressure, turn the bolt counter-clockwise. When decreasing pressure, you must simultaneously open a nearby faucet very slightly to allow a small trickle of water to flow. This relieves the excess pressure from the downstream side of the system, allowing the gauge to show the new, lower pressure reading. Monitor the pressure gauge as you make small adjustments until you reach your desired setting.

To raise the pressure, turn the adjusting bolt clockwise. A couple important things, if you're making a large adjustment, don't bottom the adjusting bolt onto the edge of this nut. You can damage the valve. As you're adjusting the bolt, you may have to move the locking nut. You don't want to press the bolt head against the locking nut and strip out the threads. Monitor the gauge and adjust the pressure to the desired reading. When you've adjusted the pressure to the desired setting, open a tap for about 30 seconds and then recheck the gauge. A low of 35 to 40 pounds and a high of 80 pounds is considered normal pressure. For optimal water conservation, the pressure should be 50 to 60 pounds. If you're reducing pressure, you'll have to leave the pressure escape. So, crack a tap very slightly. Turn the adjusting bolt counterclockwise.
