To further protect the roof's edges and underside from moisture and wind, install corrosion-resistant drip edge strips. These strips are nailed securely to the perimeter of the roof decking, overlapping slightly at corners. Once the drip edge strips are in place, unroll and secure the Easy Shingle Underlay. Lay the underlay parallel to the lowest drip edge. When laying multiple sections, ensure a minimum 10 centimeter (cm) overlap between them. If the roof gradient (slope) is between 15 and 20 degrees, increase this overlap to 50 cm for enhanced protection. Critically, the Easy Shingle Underlay should be fastened over the drip strip at the bottom edge of the roof, but at the sides, it should extend just under the drip strip. This specific positioning ensures efficient drainage of water off the roof and prevents it from getting under the underlayment.

FAQs

Is building a DIY shed really a 'beginner' project, and can it truly take 80 hours?

While classified as beginner-friendly, shed construction involves many basic carpentry tasks that require time to learn and execute properly. The 80-hour estimate is realistic for a first-timer, accounting for planning, acquiring materials, and working through each step carefully.

Which specialized tools are most critical for efficient shed construction, especially for framing and roofing?

Pneumatic nailers, such as a coil roofing nailer (like the DEWALT DW46RN) and a siding nailer (like the DEWALT DW66C-1), significantly speed up construction and ensure consistent fastening. Beyond these, a quality level, measuring tape, and chalk line are indispensable for accuracy in every step.

What are the key considerations when choosing and building the shed's foundation?

The foundation is crucial for stability and longevity, preventing moisture damage and shifting. Options include concrete slabs, pier and beam, or gravel bases; choose based on soil type, shed size, and local codes. Ensure it's level and square from the start, as errors here compound throughout the build.

How can I ensure the shed's walls and framing are perfectly square and level?

Consistently use a large framing square and the 3-4-5 triangle method to check for squareness at every framing stage. A long level is essential for plumb walls, and periodically re-check your measurements. This precision prevents problems when installing doors, windows, and roofing.
