Securing Shelf Unit to Wall Studs — Mount the Pipe Shelf to the Wall

To ensure the shelf unit is stable and secure, attach it to the wall. First, use a stud finder to locate the vertical studs behind the drywall. Alternatively, you can use a magnet to find the drywall screws or nails that mark the stud locations, as studs are typically 16 inches apart. Mark the locations of the studs on the wall. Carefully tip the assembled shelf unit onto its front, then use a 'lift with your legs' technique to lift it upright and position it against the wall, aligning the shelf's vertical legs with the marked stud locations. Once aligned, pre-drill holes through the 48-inch horizontal pieces of the shelf frame into the wall studs. Secure these points with 2 1/2 inch screws, making sure each screw firmly hits a stud for maximum stability.
