Begin by gathering the necessary wood planks. The initial plan was to use three 8-foot planks left over from a fence and a piece of cedar leftover from a table project. However, the cedar piece was later swapped for another 8-foot cedar plank due to color preference. Once the planks are gathered, sand them thoroughly, focusing on the outside surfaces to achieve a smooth finish. The inside surfaces do not require sanding as they will not be visible.
