Step 6 · Fasten the Window Frame

Drive galvanized framing nails or screws through the shims and into the rough opening studs or jack studs. Ensure fasteners are placed at regular intervals (typically every 16-24 inches) along the sides, top, and bottom of the window frame. For vinyl windows, fasteners are often placed through pre-drilled holes in the nailing fin. For wood or composite frames, fasteners may go directly through the frame itself, but always consult the manufacturer's instructions. Do not over-drive fasteners, which can deform the frame.
