Step 3 · Drill Pilot Holes

Select a drill bit that is slightly smaller than the diameter of your screws. Drill pilot holes into the wall at each of the marked screw locations. If drilling into a stud, the pilot hole should be about two-thirds the depth of the screw. If using drywall anchors, follow the anchor manufacturer's instructions for pilot hole size and depth.
