Step 3 · Remove the Diverter Valve Escutcheon

This is the step people usually slow down on. Go finger-tight first, then a quarter turn. No rush — replay the clip whenever it helps.

Remove the escutcheon plate (or trim ring) surrounding the valve. This may involve unscrewing it or carefully prying it loose. Be gentle to avoid damaging the surrounding surfaces.
