Step 7 · Reassemble and Test for Leaks

This is the step people usually slow down on. Go finger-tight first, then a quarter turn. No rush — replay the clip whenever it helps.

After the P-trap is clean, re-install it by reversing the removal process. Ensure the plastic washers (slip-joint washers) are correctly seated inside the slip nuts. Hand-tighten the nuts first to ensure they are not cross-threaded, then give them a final quarter-turn with the channel-lock pliers. Do not over-tighten, as this can crack the plastic fittings. Once reassembled, run hot water into the sink for several minutes and carefully check both slip nuts for any drips or leaks. If you see a leak, try tightening the nut slightly more. If the sink now drains freely and there are no leaks, the clog has been successfully cleared.
