Step 5 · Connect the Softener to the Bypass

This is the step most people slow down on. Take it one move at a time — there’s no rush, and you can rewind the clip as many times as you need.

With the bypass valve in place, measure and cut two lengths of copper pipe to connect the valve's inlet and outlet ports to the corresponding ports on the water softener control head. Ensure you follow the arrows on the valve indicating the direction of water flow ('IN' and 'OUT'). The pipe from the main supply goes to the 'IN' port, and the 'OUT' port pipe returns to the main line to feed the house. Assemble these connections using the same soldering technique as before or by using the manufacturer-provided connectors (which may be plastic quick-connects or threaded fittings).
