Step 4 · Begin Trimming the Sides

Using your chosen trimmers, begin cutting the sides of the hedge. Work from the bottom upwards to allow freshly cut material to fall away cleanly, rather than accumulating on uncut areas. Maintain an even pressure and a consistent angle. For manual shears, use a smooth, scissoring motion. For powered trimmers, use a sweeping motion, overlapping your cuts slightly.
