Step 3 · Establish the Desired Shape and Height

Visualize or decide on the final shape of the hedge. For a formal, flat top, you can use a string line stretched taut between two stakes to guide your cut. For a natural, rounded shape, freehand trimming may suffice. For height, establish the desired level before you begin cutting.
