Step 1 Β· Disconnect the Old Garbage Disposal

This is the step most people slow down on. Take it one move at a time β€” there’s no rush, and you can rewind the clip as many times as you need.

Before you begin, prioritize safety! Turn off the power to the garbage disposal at the circuit breaker. Then, shut off the water supply valves beneath your sink. Carefully disconnect the dishwasher drain hose (if applicable) and the discharge pipe from the disposal. Use a basin wrench to loosen and remove the mounting ring from the sink flange. Support the disposal as you loosen it to prevent it from falling, then carefully lower it.
