What happens here
Construct a Rance brace to provide structural support for the fence, especially at termination points or corners. This involves mortising a brace board into the main fence post and extending it into the ground, often secured by a tie-down block or additional buried wood. The brace board is treated with a wood preservative, particularly on the cut ends, to protect against rot. The video also highlights the importance of an 'H-brace,' a common and robust bracing system. Modern fence construction often leans the main brace post slightly away from the H-brace to avoid animal entrapment hazards, which can occur if an animal gets its foot stuck in gaps between wires or posts.
Goal: Provide robust structural support for the fence line
