Wood Chipper Fire part 2: Weld, fabricate and repair

What happens here

The presenter begins by physically correcting the bent metal on the chipper's hopper. He uses a combination of a large pipe wrench and an axe/sledgehammer to beat the metal back into its original shape. He explains that this particular section was bent due to branches getting caught during operation. Following the structural correction, he prepares the metal surfaces for welding by using an angle grinder (specifically a DeWalt brand) to remove all existing paint and rust, creating a clean surface for strong welds. He also addresses self-tapping screws that were previously installed and causing branches to snag; he grinds the ends of these screws flush to prevent future catching.

Goal: This step focuses on physically repairing the bent metal sections of the chipper's hopper and preparing surfaces for welding by grinding off paint and other obstructions.

so we got it up and running again though first thing we're going to do is beat this dent out and beat this dent out so uh we're going to do a little beating and banging right [Music] now so what we were doing is beating and banging here to straighten this piece out I've got to weld a piece of uh metal in right here to keep branches from going in and catching right here and that's what bent this out in the front first place so I'm going to weld a little extra piece of metal in there and uh weld up some other spots here so we're going to take this piece of angle iron right here and we're going to weld right here we're going to cut a little piece out like right there we're going to weld it there okay first thing I got to do grind all this paint off right here and grind a little paint off of here and then cut it to size glasses so now we've got our piece cut this is it I'm going to grind the paint off of this and we're going to weld it in place also uh I'm going to go ahead and grind off all the other little Spots I'm going to do we'll fire up the welder weld up those little spots and call it a done deal so what I'm doing here there's some uh self-tapping screws in here that somebody's put in and I'm just grinding the ends off of those because it catches the wood as I slide it in the chipper
