Wood Chipper Fire part 2: Weld, fabricate and repair

What happens here

The presenter introduces his Eastwood MIG 135 welder. He demonstrates how to use the welder's internal chart, which provides suggested settings based on welding wire type, shielding gas, and steel thickness. For his 14-gauge metal and argon gas, he selects settings 'H-7' for arc volts and wire speed. After ensuring the settings are correct, he securely clamps the pre-cut angle iron piece into the hopper. He then performs tack welds to hold the piece in place, followed by full welds to permanently attach the angle iron, reinforcing the corner of the hopper. He grinds the finished corner smooth.

Goal: This step involves setting up the Eastwood MIG 135 welder according to the recommended settings for the specific steel thickness and then welding the prepared angle iron into the chipper's hopper.

Tools and materials

  • Angle Grinder
  • 0.025 inch (0.6mm) DIA Solid Steel Wire
  • C20 or C25 Shielding Gas (75-80% Argon
  • 25-20% CO2)

to weld let's take a minute and talk about the welder I have I have an Eastwood 135 uh it's been used a few times has the gas with it uh very good little welder we're going to open our hatch up right here and this tells me my suggested settings for welding so we're going to take our metal and we're going to match it up to to this chart and uh that way we get our heat right so here's my metal I'm going to match it up and it looks like it's a 14 gauge so we've got the 6 mm wire we're going to go over here to our 14 gauge and we're using uh Argon gas so we're going to go H7 take our dial turn it to h s wire speed and the volts so something I've yet to experience with this welder is uh firing it up in cold weather it uh fires up really really slow uh it was very surprising to me I also have these Steiner welding gloves which I've used twice they already have a hole in them so Steiner 0 0229 are really great gloves just want to let you know okay when you're buying gloves think about that I'm going to firmly clamp in place my uh replacement piece not that firm though there we go uh I'm going to go ahead and Tack it the lower part welding so there you have it all welded in place nice and firm I'm going to grind this corner off right here and uh we'll be done with that section got a few more spots I want to
