Will This Change The Way We Build? THE GLASS HOUSE EP 2

What happens here

Apply a waterproofing tape, such as Trex Protect or a similar joist tape, to the top surface of all beams. This tape prevents water from pooling and seeping into the wood, protecting against rot and extending the lifespan of the deck framing. Ensure the tape adheres well and covers the entire top surface of the beams.

Goal: Protect beams from water damage and rot.

lag it in. But you can also see we put our tape on here and you can see what a great job it's doing at keeping water out from in between those pies. That is something to consider. We're kind of making it standard practice now to just tape everything. We don't see a lot of rot in the tops of joist when we do demo or go back to stuff, but you know, we still want the joist to be black so that they disappear uh with our fasteners and everything. You don't see the framing. So, um painting it, taping it. We're just going to make it standard practice to just tape all of our joists. And uh they do require it with this true frame joist system because it goes through a planing process. So even though the treatment of this really goes deep, it's a little hard to see on this one, but um even though the treatment does penetrate like into the core of the wood, um they recommend any cut edges like a planing uh situation here to be uh protected with tape. So uh something to think about. And you can see you can see what the tape's doing on top of our laminated beams. It's keeping all that water out, which is great.
