What happens here

This project demonstrates the proper electrical connection of an Electric Vehicle (EV) charger to a home's main electrical panel. A master electrician explains the process of terminating an 8/3 Romex cable, selecting a 40-amp two-pole slimline breaker based on load calculations, hardwiring the charger (bypassing a NEMA plug), and correctly installing the breaker to draw 240V power from both busbar sides. The video concludes with the successful power-up of a ChargePoint EV charger unit.

Hey, Dad. What are you doing right now? So, I'm just terminating this 40 amp line for an EV charger. 200 amp panel. Okay. The 40 amp because of the load calculation prohibited the 60 amp. Mhm. You've actually ran a ROMX cable 83 ROMX. Yep. I see. So, we're going to tap off. We didn't use a Nema. We're going to hard wire it. We don't need the neutral. So, we'll leave the neutral tucked away here. Okay. Now, we do have these slim line breakers. So, you want to make sure you don't put these on a single pole, right? Why? Because you need to catch 240 volt power. You need to catch both sides of the bus. You think putting the wire in first with the breaker is better? I never normally do that. Everyone's a little bit different. You can do that. Okay. On this skinnier wire, it's easier to do. On thicker wire, it's harder to do cuz you can't really maneuver. What I'll do is I'll just kind of dress my wire. Now, I've got that groove here. What I'm going to do is put that groove in first. It's going to lock in. Yeah. Then I can push it in. And now I'm ready to fire it up. Nice. Going to tuck our wires in. Nice. Nice. Out of the way. And uh I think he's ready to turn it on, right? Yeah. Why don't you go outside, flip the breaker on? Sounds good. Yep. They make a great product. really like that.
