What happens here

This video presents a philosophical discussion on the importance of family, fellowship, and self-sufficiency, contrasting these values with societal materialism and media sensationalism. While the user's prompt suggested a focus on soil amendment and compost application, the video's content does not provide direct instructional steps for these topics. Instead, it showcases various farm activities and family interactions as a backdrop for the speaker's reflections on finding true meaning in life and fostering community.

I would give anything I would give $10,000 to just sit down for an hour with my grandfather who's no longer with us um it didn't no amount of money would be worth it guys we live in a world of stuff and what's going to happen is all this stuff that we own is eventually going to own us and it's pushing us away from the true meaning of love and life and fellowship hey there folks this is Josh Stony Ridge farmer welcome back to another gorgeous day out here on the Stony Ridge Farm today we're not doing a whole lot of work it's winter time it's the muddy season and it's kind of a downtime a Down Season here on the Stony Ridge Farm but I thought I'd come out to you guys and talk a little bit about life and about some of the things that bother me and about some of the things that have happened over the last 30 40 50 years of my life and of your lives and how we've set aside food and we've set aside family and we've set aside values for Ridiculousness and for stuff and it's just stuff so come along today we're going to talk a little bit about this and I'm going to kind of hopefully this gives you a refreshed look on life and a refreshed look for a new year to start doing something good to start doing something good with your family to start caring to start understanding that love and family are much more important than stuff welcome back to the Stony Ridge Farm Channel if this is your first time here your 50 millionth time please hit that like button consider subscribing to the channel I'd love to have you back here on the first generation Farm we're here in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and this is my first generation Farm I've got the cows back here I'm out here on the hillside just enjoying a nice afternoon with my animals on the farm outside something that we don't do enough of we just don't get outside enough so we're going to talk about some things here some values and some things that are super important that I think we've been ignoring as a society and I think it's changing our society in a very very negative and horrible way guys when's the last time you just picked up the phone and you called your parents or you called your grandparents or you called your mom or you called your sister or you called your niece or your nephew and you just talked to them a little bit you just told them you know what I love you I care about you when's the last time that you spent some time outside with your family whether it's just going for a walk in the park or whether it's springtime planting a garden or whether it's harvesting that Garden making bread cooking with Mom and Grandma and Dad uh firing up the grill and just enjoying life guys I think we live in a world that is so obsessed with hype and with drama and with news media and media related drama that we've lost touch with what's truly important in our lives now I don't want this to be a political talk it's not a political talk this is not a left this is not a right this is not a middle this is just life you know I grew up in a family in a household where we raised most of our food we raised a couple Hogs every year we processed those Hogs the whole community came together we raised a huge Garden every year we had a up picket Garden in other words people could come down to our farm and pick the vegetables that they wanted and weigh them and purchased them that's how I grew up we always had cows we had pigs we had goats rabbits all sorts of stuff chickens to lay eggs chickens for meat and when I grew up Dad would tell me go out in the woods and get us a mess of squirrels I'd go squirrel hunting and I would go get I don't know five or 10 squirrels and I it was like The Beverly Hillbillies looking back but I would go kill a bunch of squirrels and I'd have them in my pockets and I'd come home and you'd give them to Mom and Mom would skin them up and she would cook them and it'd make the best food you've ever had and it was just food from the forest it's important that we Harvest these animals especially here in America when we don't have those keystone predator species we are the predators that's another talk for another day so what I'm here to talk to you about today is food and fellowship and family guys something that we've got away from everything is at the Mega Store everything's over at the Costco or the Sam's Club and I can buy 75 pounds of chicken and you take it home and you know it has no meaning to it anymore it seems that the stuff that we have and I want you to deeply look inside yourself and please post a comment please share your experience share how you grew up we are we are so a society that's so obsessed with stuff stuff those things that we own end up owning us I've got a nice truck I've got a nice car I've got a nice pool table I've got a swimming pool in my backyard I go to Disneyland every year guys what's really important how often are we as a society now spending time with food and family spending time in the kitchen how many mothers nowadays I'm 46 years old how many mothers from the age of 25 to the age of 50 just don't cook they don't spend that time in the kitchen by themselves it's therapeutic or in the kitchen with their husband or their children it's a bonding experience that you'll never forget guys and I really encourage it even if you don't cook or you don't think you can cook just get in the kitchen and work with your family make something make some cupcakes with your son or daughter even if you're a dad get in the kitchen you can make cupcakes and cookies too dad okay get in the kitchen and understand the importance of food and fellowship and family I encourage every one of you guys to raise a victory garden this year if you don't know what a victory garden is back in World War II our entire country was encouraged to raise some of their own food do you hear anything about this anymore do you you hear anything about growing and raising your own food with the news media hype that's going on right now it's all about politics it's all about who's going to be the president it's all about left versus right it's all about I don't like you because you do this or I don't like you because you do this sometimes we just need to stop and think what is the motivation behind this media frenzy of hatred and the motivation is ratings guys it's not to better you as a person or better us as an American society or French or Canadian or English it's not bettering us as a society it's making us mad it's making us hateful it's causing us to have rage and anger issues it's causing us to make our purchase decisions based upon what the news media thinks and I just think that that's absolutely silly so guys I just wanted to sit down here and talk to you I'm out here on my land here on the farm I work hard and hard work is important when's the last time or have you ever taken your family out and got up a pck pickup truck load of wood when's the last time you had your family in the kitchen cooking and working with you and learning and growing together those are the moments that will be remembered long after we're gone pick up the phone call your mom call your dad call your stepmom call your stepdad call your grandmother or your grandfather if they're still with us I would give anything I would give $10,000 to just sit down for an hour with my grandfather who's no longer with us um it didn't no amount of money would be worth it guys we live in a world of stuff and what's going to happen is all this stuff that we own is eventually going to own us and it's pushing us away from the true meaning of love and life and fellowship please guys if there's anything you'd like to leave down there any comment you'd like to leave I know this is kind of a softspoken I'm a big old Burly guy or whatever this is kind of a softspoken video but these are the values that I grew up with and we're losing touch with those values we're losing touch with the reality of love and life and fellowship think back to when you cooked made cookies with Grandma or think back to when you got that load of firewood up with your dad and your mom and your sister you won't remember going on a boating trip and you won't remember remember going to Disneyland but you'll remember those times when you had to pitch in as a family and work together that's what's important guys I just wanted to talk to you a little bit about this the media is driving me crazy I don't watch it but I get a lot of comments literally thousands of comments that are absolutely mainstream media and politically driven and we are pushing ourselves away from being true Americans true people people true frenchmen's true englishman's true people who understand that the seasons change who understand that animals live out here and that we eat animals they don't understand life they don't understand death like I said there's no amount of money that I wouldn't part with to just sit down with my grandfather and talk to him just talk to him think of all the questions you would ask your loved ones and the time that you spent with them and you won't remember the time you went with Aunt Susie to Disneyland you're going to remember the time you cooked with Aunt Susie on Thanksgiving these times of Fellowship these times of Christmas these times of love guys please remember if there's any take-home message after you get done watching this video pick up the phone and call somebody you love and tell them you love them it's important guys get together with the people that you love you're not going to remember a trip to Outback Stak house you're going to remember baking bread with Grandma you're going to remember Christmas morning making cookies you're going to remember this stuff guys please thank you all so much for joining me today I just wanted to talk to you about food and family and fellowship and the stuff that we own ends up owning us and we just want to show it off so we're we're empty we're so empty inside as a society that we feel like we need to go bu that new Porsche or that new truck or that new car or that new Gadget but what we're really doing is making up for something that's missing in our hearts guys thanks so much for joining me here on the Stony Ridge Farm today please hit that like button subscribe the channel I'd love to
