(11,199 characters)[Music] [Applause] hey guys this Josh sty Ridge farmer welcome to the farm Vlog for today we have had some issues here on the farm want to take you around show you what's going on we are totally out of power right now my garage is flooded last night it rained 3 and 1/2 in the night before it rained 3 and2 in and we've had a lot of wind we're running on generator power right now it's a crisis here in our area and the power line is in my pond down here so we're going to go down and check it out I'll show you what's going on we're without power we've got a little bit of a homesteading crisis right now awesome my feed got wet for the goats I'm going to go feed the goats all that feed so it doesn't get ruined so as we're walking here you'll notice things are going to get louder and louder and louder I've got a generator and my generator is very loud okay uh you look behind me right here's the generator uh we'll check it out we got a little Troy Built generator right here pretty cool generator it runs my air conditioning uh it runs lots of things in the house uh my freezers fridges no problem whatsoever the well pump microwave everything but you just can't run everything at once so we're only using 19% power right now oh woo forgot to tell you by the way when it rains it pours literally it rained and poured and I found a yellow jacket nest in my wall here so I cocked up the hole and I used this little popper thing I'll show you some point uh this little fly swatter electronic fly swatter works great for killing Yellow Jackets Nest I'll do a vlog about that totally dedicated to it we'll find a ground bee Yellow Jackets nest and show you but let me show you what the generator does there it go so the heat pump just kicked in let's go see how much power we're pulling now all right so our heat pump just kicked in heat pump kicked in we're running at about 50% power very impressed with this generator right here when you buy a generator there's a few things you need to think about we'll go around the corner and talk about it but this is an awesome generator I'll go around it real quick and show you so if you're thinking about a generator if you're thinking about getting something that'll run your entire house that Troy Built XP Series has 10,500 watts of starting power and that's the most important thing you can have 7500 watts of uh Power but if you don't have that surge power that 10,500 you're going to trip your main breaker and you won't be able to run some crucial things in your house like your heat pump and I'm fat and I like to stay nice and cool and this works it out so guys let's hop on the gator we're going to take this feed up to the goats give it to them we'll go down to the pond and show you the power line laying in the pond water it's crazy power company was notified of this at 11:25 last night still they haven't done hardly anything they're waiting on a tree company to come out we're going to be without power for several days so that's the bummer part of living out in the country you're not a priority we are not a priority with the grid with the power grid what's really cool about when water gets in your garage is all of the lumber you have for your Trim in your house gets wet and it gets that patina that you really don't want in your house this rain sucks I put a French drain in back here but it's so much water that it just can't handle it we've had some very sporadic weather here in North Carolina lately and it's supposed to do it again tonight I say sporadic but should it be erratic or sporadic uh one of you uh one of you nerds out there let me know is it erratic weather that we're having or is it sporadic weather [Music] let's go check on the goats as you can see tree limbs and stuff have blown off everywhere this is where we've cut timber out here we're going to take that back to field looks like it's been naled there's our Tobacco Barn and there's the goats awesome guys the goats are doing great I was worried about them in the storm last night they've got a little shelter right over here not much of a shelter but it's a good little shelter and the goats did very good for some reason I got this new tarar Farm and Ranch feeder right here it's a cow feeder and it's got holes in it but for some reason it's holding water let's check this out see what's going on what are you doing this is our new Billy he's a fainting goat he's a little fainting goat he's a cutie pie so maybe maybe our holes are plugged up or something this is supposed to not hold water but it sure is holding it looks like it's got a drain hole right here but no drain hole on this side oh there's the problem had a little piece of feed caught up in that thing he draining out now yeah we're going to have to come back up here we'll give this thing a little bit to dry out that way we can put that goat feed in there for him forever something to do on the farm guys uh especially in bad weather situations you got to make sure your animals are safe and everybody's cool chickens got plenty of feed and water uh goats got plenty of feed and water and make sure everything's good make sure your dog's doing good too good dog why are you not being bright enough yeah yeah well I thought we were going to put the feed in the barrel but stupid dummy right there feed fell off the back of the Gator we'll throw it back on here go feed the goats woo I show you what this ruined food looks like using my fancy see Victorinox uh what do you call this thing uh Swiss army knife why did I forget that I bought this thing in Saudi Arabia back when I was in the Air Force been a great knife keep it on the gator rad so basically this food this goat feed got ruined I've had this knife since 2000 and never sharpened it okay it's a good knife I can still hear my generator cut that and cut that you see what happened to the feed just got gross so but it'll still be good for the goats to eat the goats aren't shy about eating long as that food isn't mil duded or anything we're in good shape to give it to the goats worry about giving them so much food but I think they'll be just fine after all who am I to tell a goat how much he can eat our journey [Music] continues look who we got we got us a passenger Mrs Stony Ridge hello she's the queen of the Stony Ridge Farm trailer going to try and be smart here we're going to put our dog up before we go down and look at the power line probably not a good idea to have the dog out there let's go let's go here's some of the aftermath this is where the water ran across the road and it's washing away the road right here and all this is just Leaf debris and then the gravel washed out from right here and washed over into here it's a bummer man so the power company has been by and it's told me that we're waiting on the tree company and there's the tree company right there here's how they flagged the power uh let you know the power is off and the tree company guys are out here I guess uh there's a big old maple tree that's down on the power line so here's the power line that's down and it's down all the way to that pole and it's in the pond oh guess what I guess this tree is down right here at the picnic table guys our ponds overflowed again right here uh we got to do some work on this pond dam here in the next few months uh we'll have a excavator and a bulldozer out here and we'll be uh building the pond dam up a little bit and also clearing out some uh areas that we've Tak Forest down and we're making back into Fields these are all overgrown tobacco fields that are all around us this was all Forest back in here behind us just overgrown pine trees and little crappy trees that weren't benefiting us and or benefiting the land so we've cleared the land so we can make hay and so we can have cows the dam definitely overflowed last night hopefully hasn't washed away too awful much but it just continues to erode um here is the pipe and I'll zoom in on that that's right right there that's the pipe I'll zoom in on that a little bit it's supposed to be sticking out about 18 in and it's buried under there so we'll zoom in on that real quick that's supposed to be sticking out approximately 18 in right now and it's definitely not doing that you can see the water level here the pond overflowed again you can see it hasn't washed away too much until you get back here and then you can see man it's slowly eroding really bad got to get some work done here guys it used to be all the way back to here and now all this is gone so what do you do when you live in the country you deal with it okay um we're just going to have to let time take its course and repair it as we go so I want to give you guys a little taste of what it's like to be without power in the country and how long it takes to get power back in the country dude I found the end of the power line stupid I'm not touching it zoom in right there is the end of the power line where it broke just stretched it out I guess so what I didn't tell you is last night I heard this thing explode it was insane boom a huge blast and then boom another blast and I guess the first blast is where the tree is over here and the guys are cutting it right now and then the next blast was this power line above me on the pond dam breaking crazy crazy crazy so looks like we got a little bit of work ahead of us today too the tree right here fell down on the picnic table got to get that thing off the picnic table get it cleared out take the brush off just a lot of work lot of stuff to do on the farm here and we're in the midst of mowing our Fields here too and that's taken about yeah 55 hours or so of mowing just to mow our Fields down once we have cows we won't have to do all that but that's the way it is so our picnic table is buried up underneath that right there another thing I just discovered guys limb fell out of the tree blew out of a tree way over here and landed right on top of our tractor shed we're really lucky this didn't damage anything we're really lucky it didn't fall on one of us and hurt us so guys that's just a little drive around and show you what's going on here on the farm we're without power we've been without power for about 18 hours now uh I do have the generator rocking and rolling really happy with that Troy Built generator one day I'll do a full review on it but I really really like it uh it's doing a good job the only downside is it's very loud so you don't mind a loud generator if your house is well insulated then should be no problem thanks a lot for watching guys don't forget to click that Thumbs Up Click that like button let me know that you like me give me some comments give me some feedback tell me a story tell me about what happened to you last time power went out I appreciate you watching like having you here on the farm with me come along with us on our journey and help us build this place into a beautiful
