Water Hammer In Shower Pipes!...I Tried This First

What happens here

Reinstall the bonnet nut over the new cartridge and hand-tighten it. Then use the pliers to give it a final snug turn, but do not overtighten. Open the individual shut-off valves on the valve body to restore water flow. Turn the faucet handle to test for leaks and to ensure the hot and cold water mix correctly. The video shows the plumber testing the pressure balancing feature by shutting off the cold supply while the hot is running to ensure the flow reduces, which is a key safety feature.

Goal: Plumbing Fixture Repair (Leaking)

Tools and materials

  • Channel-lock pliers Knipex — Tightening the bonnet nut
  • Screwdriver — Opening the shut-off valves on the valve body

Hide

Take your discussion, screw that back on. That's what's hiding back now. So if you've thread your handle back on, it's going to make it so much easier to open this valve. Grabbing those spines, they aren't really hard and it can be pretty hard for you. So it took me a second to understand this. If I had this one open, no water was going to come out until I opened this one up. And that was part of the pressure balancing. So if I shut this one down, I'm going to get nothing, almost nothing out, because it's pressure balancing. This is all the way to hot. But the second I opened up this cold side, well now we get full water. That is part of the pressure balancing part of this valve. Okay, there's nothing underneath here leaking. Oh, another thing is when you turn these valves back on, make sure when you turn them all the way, make sure you go back a quarter of a turn or so. Just to make sure that these valves don't get stuck in the open position and they become really hard shut off. Okay, these actually work really well, they shut off pretty easy. So I really think our issue is fixed here. We'll go ahead and we'll get all this cleaned up. We've tested this a couple times, and now we're going to put this back together.
