our friend's house because we are going to trade some work and he said hey man I got a tub leak going on you want to come look at this scenario let's go upstairs and do a little bit of troubleshooting so come along let's get to fixing all right so this is the tub shower right here that has a leak first thing I like to do is get up here by the shower head all right you want to pull back this discussion and you want to take a look in here while it's running see if you can see any kind of water and I don't see any water but what I do see is that movement right there is not good there should that should be solid there should be no movement there so let's go down lower and see if we can find anything else so now we're looking at the trim plate for the valve this particular one is a Jacuzzi Style and what you do there's actually no way to take this handle piece off right here is a little loose wonky we'll see what we can do to fix that up but you just take this discussion piece right here and start spinning and then this whole thing pops off this is two pieces oh man see they put some silicone right there and what we want to do here now is we want to look inside of here and we want to see if there's something going on so how we're going to do that is we're going to spin this shower head towards the wall we're going to open this up we got some water flowing and let's take a little look inside here I don't know if you can see that back there but right inside there underneath that screw there is water dripping so we're gonna have to pop that open on the back side of this wall and see what's going on and I really think it might have something to do with how loose that is right there so I want to see more back here and there's no reason for this drywall to be here it'll actually give us a little bit better View once we get in there so look at that this actually chopped out wrong anyway it should have been a little bit more circular because mixing valve right here actually has isolation valves on it right there and right there well that's nice to know so now we got a little bit of a clear view right there I can actually get a finger in here now and I can feel moisture yeah and I there's definitely a ton of moisture up here coming off of this line it looks like it's a shark bite fitting I don't know I can't 100 tell right here like yes I can 100 tell from right here whether that's a shark bite fitting or not but it sure looks like it the other thing is is that there is drywall back behind this and we have this big kick out of the wall and I feel like we're gonna be chopping somewhere right around here so we're not going to be able to uh I don't know I think it's just double walled I think they made this to make the the door like that we'll see so here's the other thing if we didn't see any water inside here before I went and cut the rest of that out of the bottom I would want to check the tub spout and make sure that it's not leaking back behind and going down into the ceiling below okay and also the Overflow so I like to check all this stuff before I'm going downstairs that's just good troubleshooting when you're trying to locate a leak inside of the wall of a shower so upon a measurement it's a bummer that this is actually it's pretty much right on that corner indeed so I'm just going to come off of this a little bit that way we can make a patch and hopefully I can get into it at an angle try to go as dustless as I possibly can here this is a bummer this right here is one of those scenarios big no no definitely all SharkBite fittings which is a bummer bummer bummer all right yeah that's sucky all right so what I'm going to have you do so you don't mind go over there and turn your shower on and let's let it run and we'll just see exactly what is actually leaking right here there we go oh yeah yeah right there in that shirt plate fitting such a bummer I know that they're approved for in the wall but dude I mean it could be too short it could be something jacked up but man it just is not a good setup that I'm really interested to see how it is up there how it's tied in because of that movement that's a bummer too all right so one more thing we're going to fix here is this wobbly handle on the shower valve and it's just going to be a Phillips head screwdriver down inside there I think it's just got a little loose yeah that's it all right much better all right so this job just got a little bit bigger than I thought it was going to be I probably thought that we would fix a an overflow gasket or a tub spout something along those lines but now as you can see we're getting in there he's gonna end up chopping out a whole bunch of wall and we're gonna end up replacing the valve right because he doesn't really like the valve and I get it and then all those shark bite fittings we got to get all that stuff out of there man there's copper down below I already can see that we'll get it all hooked up it's just going to be another video so please come back check us out we're going to be doing good things at least you got some good troubleshooting tips I hope out of this video and we'll see you again real soon
