Tree work for the Beginner. How to climb, Set rigging, Spurs, Ropes & harness.

What happens here

The climber begins his ascent using the 'hump the tree' technique with his steel-braided lanyard and climbing spikes. He instructs the host to place his feet wide and 'jam' them into the tree, taking baby steps (about 10 inches at a time). He reminds himself and the audience to always re-sheath the saw after each use and avoid hitting the lanyard. The host observes and asks about the highest the climber has ever been (115 feet). The climber emphasizes the importance of safety by using gear for climbing instead of spikes on trees that aren't being cut down, to prevent infection. He highlights the risk of panic attacks when climbing without proper training.

Goal: Demonstrate the initial ascent using climbing techniques and tools.
