What happens here

Begin by establishing the precise location for the top edge of your deck ledger board. Use a spirit level to draw a perfectly horizontal line on the house wrap or sheathing. This line will serve as the guide for the top of your ledger. Next, use a string line to ensure the marked line is perfectly straight and extends across the entire length where the ledger will be installed. After marking, install a white vinyl J-channel or a similar starter strip along the bottom edge of the marked area, securing it with small screws. This piece often serves to create a clean finish for the existing siding or house wrap and can act as a drip edge.

Goal: Establish the ledger board's top line and prepare the wall surface
