This was bad...lessons learned everyday on the farm

What happens here

To address a muddy water tank area, disconnect the existing 1/2 inch poly pipe from the water tank. Extend the poly pipe by connecting additional sections of pipe using press-on barb compression fittings. Move the water tank to a drier, more suitable location within the pasture. Next, attach a drill pump to the end of the poly pipe using a garden hose connector. Insert the intake of the drill pump into the poly pipe coming from the pond. Power the drill pump with a cordless drill to create suction, drawing water through the extended poly pipe and priming the siphon. This ensures continuous water flow to the newly positioned tank. Once the siphon is established and water is flowing steadily, remove the drill pump and seal the end of the poly pipe that was connected to it.

Goal: Move a cattle water tank from a muddy area and establish continuous water flow using an extended siphon.

Tools and materials

  • Cattle Water Tank — The tank being moved
  • Cordless Drill DeWalt — Powering the drill pump
  • Drill Batteries DeWalt — Ensuring sufficient power for the drill pump
  • Drill Pump Flow-Rite — Priming the siphon by drawing water through the pipe
  • Garden Hose Connector — Connecting the drill pump to the poly pipe
  • Poly Pipe — Extending the water line to the new tank location
  • Press-on Barb Compression Fittings — Connecting additional poly pipe sections
  • Muddy Area N/A — The area where the water tank was initially located
