What happens here
The water intake filter for a pond-fed water tank is clogged, restricting water flow. The process involves donning chest waders, wading into the cold pond water, locating the submerged filter, physically scrubbing off accumulated debris using a brush, and re-securing the filter to ensure it remains suspended off the pond bottom. Initially, a copper attachment failed, so it was replaced with zip ties. This time, the zip ties also failed, requiring a hose clamp to secure the filter to its buoyant floats.
Goal: Restore optimal water flow by cleaning the clogged intake filter.
Tools and materials
- Brush — Scrubbing debris off the filter
- Chest Waders Hodgeman — Staying dry and warm while wading in the pond
- GoPro Camera GoPro — Recording the underwater cleaning process
- GoPro Chest Mount GoPro — Attaching the GoPro camera to the chest
- Hose Clamps — Securely attaching the filter to the float
- Marine-grade Rope — Securing the filter assembly to the main poly pipe and buoyant floats
- Multi-bit Screwdriver Klein Tools — Tightening hose clamps
- Siphon Filter Assembly — The component being cleaned, consisting of poly pipe, screen mesh, and a float
- Pond N/A — Source of water for the siphon system
