This roof is really starting to take shape!!

What happens here

Begin by moving all necessary heavy lumber, such as laminated veneer lumber (LVL) beams, onto the existing deck where the structure will be built. Position a material lift, such as a Genie Lift or similar personal material hoist, near the primary support areas. With multiple workers, carefully guide and use the material lift to elevate these long and heavy beams. Maneuver them into their initial intended positions, typically atop pre-installed main vertical support posts or temporary bracing, to establish the initial horizontal spans of the pavilion's framework. This step requires significant coordination and safety awareness due to the weight and size of the materials.

Goal: Position the primary horizontal beams for the structure.

Tools and materials

  • Material Lift — To safely lift and position heavy laminated veneer lumber (LVL) beams
  • Safety Glasses — Protecting eyes from dust and debris during construction
  • Safety Gloves — Protecting hands from splinters and improving grip on lumber
  • Laminated Veneer Lumber — Primary structural horizontal elements for the pavilion
