What happens here

This project chronicles a comprehensive backyard transformation involving the demolition of an old swimming pool, extensive regrading of the terrain, and the final application of black dirt for landscaping. It highlights the logistical challenges of working with heavy machinery, coordinating material deliveries, and navigating municipal inspection processes, providing insights into managing a large-scale outdoor renovation project.

yeah so we're gonna match up the grade with the rest of the yard we got to uh get this we still got a little bit more soil to to bring in there but what were you saying what happened down in the street when i was half in soil i was sweeping the dirt out of there and kendall drove by in a black dodge four-door and he says you can't dump in this there's always always one somewhere always so the grades out here jason we're just gonna match up to here so okay i think we need two more of them big loads and then we got one load of black dirt we're gonna outline where the patio goes here with bill after we get this but then we're gonna before we even do the black dirt we're gonna have all this material out get the entire site cleaned up get everything graded so that we can eyeball all the grades and get it right to where we're happy but yeah we got some rocks yeah but it's not till next year okay yeah so so that'll be the game plan out here now we just hopefully the next inspector shows up on time he's supposed to be here at two maybe he'd maybe he won't go blind away the other one drove by twice and just waved right yeah saying that's 250 dollars away yeah yeah our permits 500 bucks we couldn't get the guy to get out of his truck to inspect the silt fence and the silt sock that we've got out here for 500 bucks i would at least like them come out and shake my hand and sign this piece of paper but i guess you don't get that but we do we are on a standstill till the next guy shows up all right we got to get this one up over the curve as close as possible we have an inspector coming in right now yeah it's a peterbilt so that's gonna probably be about a 300 bill for that one part hey we got an inspector coming yeah so i can hang out for a minute yeah well here's the deal he's supposed to be here in four minutes yeah that's cool so i just don't want to dump in the street with uh i get it hopefully he's on time how many more loads you got uh i got this is gonna be the last one it's a pretty heavy one okay perfect that works too fine [Applause] i'm sorry what didn't your parents ever teach you not to play oh man my mom told me i play on the double yellow all the time i wonder why that was no good have a good day man oh those are the best oh no that we're still waiting for the inspector we had a male karen come by uh we had to call him a ken came by and yelled at him you can't jump in the street like thanks for the heads up buddy i think we already do so what guy what what's the job you guys are doing uh it's it's like the schmidt brewing warehouse we're doing a bunch of uh reconstruction so we're opening up another parking bay for trucks to get in easier and then a couple more spots to hold some dumpsters what year is that i got a three o'clock meeting expect you're supposed to be here two it's not 2 15. he's not around i'm gonna have alex come down and hopefully film this uh meeting with this inspector and hopefully it goes good [Music] i'm gonna leave leave this in jason's hand for now [Music] yes all right i think the inspector's here yeah yeah are you pat nice to meet you pat i'm stan how you doing i just got off the phone with alex oh he's a go-getter isn't he he's just calling he's like i'm running late i just pulled up somebody's here oh yeah yeah yeah all right so we got a little bit ahead of you but that's all right i think because we got a video of everything we've done i saved all this stuff because i know you want to see the rough end and you want to see the final and you probably just wanted to look at my pretty face right yeah more than anything we just want to make sure no horn debris gets buried okay yep so as soon as you leave i'm just going to dig a big hole and just shove everything back down in there right so you say you've got a video though from the hole oh yeah oh yeah yeah i got a video of everything we we time lapsed live action we did everything oh really oh yeah yeah right from start to finish so this is the side walls there's your footings around the perimeter the skirt of it it's already been hauled out that was yesterday did they have a concrete deck that was hauled out yesterday that's what i call it oh okay [Music] we couldn't get the soil guy to stop waved at him twice he just kept going but that's all right i guess it makes that inspection that much faster yeah well what do you think pat let's look at that can i see the video just make sure we don't have any debris in the hole use that which has been odd because for the last 10 years we've only seen them come out well okay so pat was saying there's more pools going in now than he's ever seen before because of the pandemic yep that's where it started now seems like people are staying with it and i was saying well he knows what he's talking about because he's actually describing the pool footing in an accurate way so it's at the bottom of the wall and then that gets poured out and it just uses the earth for its form so do you need to sign the permit over here yeah okay can i see the time lapse of the footing themselves do you have it from this angle uh yeah probably so pat was very thorough and detailed in fact you notice that i have to shut the camera off because all of the footage is on the camera and he has me go through every single one of the raw files the time lapses all of the different angles play it replay it watch it again then he'll stop he'll question it and then he'll ask if there's another angle and that's fine it's i love an inspector that's thorough and he knows what he's signing off on versus i get a much more warm and fuzzy feeling from that than inspector that doesn't stop at all in fact i never even got to meet the inspector that charged us the 550 inspection fee and that does not leave me a good feeling because i don't know if he's gonna come back years later and say oh you never sign that off and if you guys don't know what i'm talking about i had an inspector five years after the fact who did not sign off on a building inspect or on an inspection come after me that video is up and i've actually got him on camera and uh i i love having the signature and just closing everything out and walking away knowing that the inspector knows exactly what we're doing and we know that he's good with it fantastic good thank you sir thank you have a nice afternoon all right you too [Music] you want some metal [Music] where are you off to next uh right up the street on 132nd street for a fireplace wow they double booked me two inspections at the same time well it's only a couple blocks away apparently well i'm glad you're here we only took four or five minutes to go through this one he reviewed every single bit of my time-lapse footage that you guys are gonna get to see and we're good to go thanks pat yeah have a good afternoon yeah you too all right i'm leaving it in your hands jason okay keep doing what you're doing i'll be back in just a little bit i got a three o'clock meeting and i will see you right after that no problem so whenever we're grading we have to contain the drainage on the site that we're working on what i'm actually meaning is we can't take and re-grade a yard so that it dumps all of the water from the property we're on onto somebody else's yard and that always seems to be one of the challenges whenever we're doing a swimming pool demolition is exactly where is the water going to go and how do we keep it within the confines of the property that we're working on now in this case where the camera angle is farthest away from the house is exactly where we're going to drain that water because that's another no-no we do not want to dump that water toward a house toward a structure on the property we always want to have a path where the water can go away from all of the buildings and structures but not hit the neighbors [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] to topdress the site we import pulverize screen black dirt but on this job it doesn't go everywhere in fact we use a garden hose to outline where the future patio goes and that gives us a clear boundary to put the black dirt up [Music] when it comes to do a finishing grade for black dirt i've always preferred using a spring rake over a hard rake it covers a larger surface and it leaves just a better finished product in my opinion earlier in the video jason was saying we had a ken doll stop by and let yell at us for dumping in the street that wasn't us dumping in the street that was the company delivering the soil to us when we're drunk dumping on our project johnny's making sure to get up and over the curb but the other company's truck was a little bit bigger and i didn't want to challenge that operator to do the same thing that i knew my truck driver could do so we just let him dump in the street and quick cleaned it up but when it comes to johnny he's getting it up and over the curb [Music] oh i'd say he got almost all of it off from the streets got a little bit of fluff a little bit of fluff but we got a street to clean up and a load to get on so let's do that now you guys remember that super sketchy load they're back i saved you some metal you got it you got it hey i i hope that's good enough for worth your trip all work is good you know i love it i love that attitude i love that attitude hey how did that load go down the road for you guys the other day oh we strapped food yeah we had a car a half of a car racing car on the back of a pickup you gotta have a razor car in the back of a truck yeah you guys are crazy i met these guys in the parking lot of a home depot and i stopped them because i could not believe the load they had on that truck some loads scrappers take just makes me scratch my head and these guys are no exception to the rules [Music] this last little bit of scrap going out that wraps up this job and i sure hope you guys enjoyed this
