This deck ain’t ground level, it’s GROUNDBREAKING 😮‍💨 #framing #lumber #deck #deckdesign #framers

What happens here

Once joists are correctly positioned, reinforce their connection to the rim joist or ledger board using deck screws. Select appropriate exterior-grade deck screws, typically 2.5 to 3 inches long. Load them into an impact driver, such as a DeWalt FlexVolt model. Before driving, use a speed square or combination square to ensure the joist is perfectly perpendicular to the rim joist. Drive two or three screws through the rim joist into the end grain of each joist, ensuring they are countersunk slightly below the surface. This creates a strong, rigid connection.

Goal: Securely fasten joists to the rim joist/ledger board

Tools and materials

  • Impact Driver DeWalt FlexVolt — Driving deck screws quickly and efficiently
  • Rim Joist / Ledger Board — The main perimeter or attachment board to which joists are fastened
  • Speed Square — Ensuring joists are square (perpendicular) to the rim joist before fastening
  • Wooden Joists — The framing members being fastened
  • Exterior-Grade Deck Screws — Securing joists to the rim joist/ledger board
