What happens here
This video details the process of building a protective snow bunker around valuable land clearing equipment, including skid steers and snow pushers, at a remote snow plowing site. The project is initiated after multiple theft incidents, including catalytic converters and an equipment trailer. The process involves using various loaders and a backhoe to clear snow, compact it, and strategically stack equipment to create a secure, temporary storage solution. The video also highlights the features of a new compact loader and the cold-start capabilities of heavy machinery in winter conditions.

(20,001 characters)so i show up at the plow site and it looks like somebody has helped themselves to our skid steer trailer they left behind our lawn care trailer though uh it should be right up it's a plum site where right next to the dumpster where we always park it yeah i think somebody helped themselves to our skid steer trailer looks like they were going somebody was going through the mowing trailer too so i'm on the phone with tim in case maybe he knew if somebody moved it i think they i think they took it she might be gone yeah there's some tread marks coming out from where it was parked it was definitely within the last 48 hours oh yeah yeah it's since we plowed let's go check it out well looking to see if there's like any straps or anything left in here and no we got our straps oh kind of ones yeah they took the we had the good uh we had some of those what are those good ones those shock straps or whatever are gone the shock straps are all gone yeah i'm gonna look around just in case one of the guys maybe moved it it would have been it would have had to have been in the last two days i can see where the tracks where it was yeah no that's what i mean they pulled they pulled it out of here there's the snow coming out of there it was in the last two days yeah either either sunday or whenever yesterday yeah you just see her they pulled it out of here yeah all right well tim i'm gonna look for it if i don't see it then i'll call you back okay so first they came and stole the catalytic converter off from this truck and then a few days later they came and took the skid steer trailer so we're to move everything that isn't tied down out and the things that we have to leave behind we're going to build a snow bunker to protect and that's mainly our pushers buckets and accessories that go on and off the skid steers now our shop is about seven miles away which is just long enough that we can't really easily mobilize from there out to the plow side simply because there's no back roads to be able to drive drive the equipment down so everything has to go on the trailer and get trailered out to the site so we're gonna also test out a brand new loader this looks like my cast mini loader and this is called a maxo loader it's a 57 horsepower same design as my cast mini loader but it runs up a kohler engine all right guys thieves keep breaking into our snowplow site and stealing our equipment first they cut the catalytic converter off from our truck then they stole our equipment trailer so we're gonna go out to the snowplow site and we're gonna build a snow bunker to protect our gear but we're gonna use a brand new loader that i've never ran before to do it this should be an interesting day let's get started [Music] so here's the moment of truth we're going to pull in and see if thieves have stole anything else but they did take our trailer and i know some of you guys are probably like well you know hey it's covered by insurance but here's the problem with that you can only make like i think two or three claims in a year depending on the value of the equipment that was stolen before your rates get jacked really high the problem is that was an old equipment trailer and what they do with insurance companies is they i think it's called prorate i believe is the word and so they'll they calculate the age of the equipment and then they give you the value now that was an old crusty trailer so to put it on to our insurance means we're putting a claim against our insurance for something that's not very valuable but still stings when you got to go to replacement they don't give you replacement value and let's see what do we have just look literally i'm looking for anything that could be stolen panels open anything like that it's been a few days so this is the bank of snow that we're gonna go in and build our snow fortress out of but the heavy equipment isn't what i'm worried about what i am worried about are all the pushers tim has them all tucked away as best he can but we're gonna make that better let's see where's the bucket hello snow bucket where's the snow bucket of course that's the bucket that one that goes with that machine i love it but this is honestly the way we're gonna stack them into the bank because we we're gonna take all of these and and stack them in but that means for today we got to get that one out with that machine and return it so we can get the new loader let's do that so that skid loader is not mine and it goes back to top-notch equipment and the snow bucket that they provided me with i want to return that as well problem is i don't have a skid steer trailer to bring it back in so i'm going to be using the dirt monkey trailer that's a 96 inch snow bucket and it won't fit inside of my trailer but i don't know that until i actually get it on the machine and try to drive it up in there [Music] so i brought the dirt monkey trailer back after a skid steer got stolen i was doing demolition up north you can see some of it was still froze in the bottom of the trailer that's why there's nails and shingles and stuff and you'll notice that there's no bucket on the front of my not my but the manitoba skid water all right guys we're top-notch equipment in rogers minnesota we'll see if we can uh grab harry and see what machine we're getting into this is a brand new one i guess it just came in hey dustin how are you doing buddy get over yourself good cold out there huh nah nah that's minnesotans no it's not that bad it's what 25 30 today kind of balmy where's you where's your boy i don't know ramen all right thanks all right guys we're back with harry from top notch and this you're gonna kind of give us a walk around what this is now yep this is the new uh maxo 57 ds okay 57 horse kohler engine cap 4 design 2 speed 18 gallons per minute hydraulic flow currently it's got the euro plate on it but the model is coming in june we'll all have a mt plate which will pick up mt mini attachments and full size skid your differential lock is now on the joystick instead of the switch you have down here it's now the red button on the side of the joystick so this is your diff lock right right there that's your anti-slug so this is a cab forward design and you'll notice that the operator is in line with the bucket and this is a little different than a typical loader you're always looking where you're working with a typical loader you're sitting on the back half of it and the front half is doing all the work so there'd be times when you're looking this way and your machine the front of your machine is over here not a big deal you just look like that but with this thing you're always in line and i honestly feel that it gives me better control especially in tight situations i think he likes that cap forward design some people like it and some people dislike it i don't know if you've ran both let me know what you think i think i'm a cab forward guy kdi diesel 57 horsepower uh turbo and then this has got the doc filtration system on okay so this does not need to regen okay um unlike a dpf system which would go into regen what does it do how does it handle it it's a diesel oxidation catalyst so it kind of just burns it up as it as it goes the thing with the docs is when they when they plug up you just have to replace them rated hours for most doc systems are five to seven thousand how many how much does that cost to replace that then because this is what you replace right on the kohler i'm not sure but i do know on the deutz engines they're about 6 500 oh crap i believe dodge ran them on the cummins for a while i'm sure a lot of the dodge guys will know but the dlc goes it gets plugged they're fairly expensive to replace but typically it was most of those trucks were 150 200 000 likes and just a little side note anybody that's running the diesel engines with the doc system or the dpf style systems uh once your engine's warm set your throttles above 35-40 percent will greatly extend the life of that system so if it's idling it if it's idling it can plug up the filters faster nice okay so it's better to either shut it off or leave it at 40 40 or 50 percent if you don't leave it sit on a job site or don't let it idle don't let it so these are the eight foot ramps and there isn't a whole lot of ground clearance so to make it work i ended up raising the dirt monkey trailer up enough to get it a little flatter instead of having this thing going and kind of going like this so everything will just climb up a little nicer and it wouldn't fit inside so then we had to curl the bucket the sure track trailer is two foot longer i'm gonna need that to bring her back i think or just do this my shirt track does have steel ramps and they're the worst thing ever those are the eight foot ramps and you can get them right from top notch and they'll ship them right to you best thing ever for a phone for a trailer get aluminum ramps these are amazingly light and they'll hold five thousand pounds each zero percent chance that i would be able to do that with a steel ring zero i am not that strong hey siri what's the tempo it's 18 degrees outside all right 18 degrees which isn't too bad but let's see how this kohler engine fires up had a chance to sit and get cold [Music] did you guys hear that hug it just kind of went [Music] that's a cool song let's see how the old girl does next right it's same time be interesting to see how she fires off you know even if she doesn't pop right off that's okay because this old girl paid for herself like 10 years ago but let's see how she i can't believe how well this thing starts not plugged in i don't even have plug-ins out here always pops off you know they say nothing runs like a deer and i'm not a big john deere fan but i will say this this backhoe has not given me one single problem for the 10 15 years that i've owned it but not one and that's saying a lot so before we can build the snow bunker we've got to loosen up some of those the banks of frozen ice so there's two basic kinds of controls i call them cat controls and then ford controls i don't remember iso and whatever the real name of them are so once you learn how to run backhoes if you hop in an excavator that has cat controls everything is totally bass backwards it's you you just can't do it it's just almost impossible so once you learn one way it's hard to learn to do it a different way [Music] we push snow from this way up to here and then on that end we push all the snow from those lots down to there so the best place to put this snow bunker is directly in the middle and we should peel some of the snow off from here so we got a spot to put more snow on the next few snowfalls and we should peel some snow off from that and so we got that that cleared as well but ideally we'd like to keep this drive lane open if possible on really snowy winters that's not possible sometimes the snow comes all the way out to here but we're not having one of those so i think step one is clear out the center so what i want to do is i want to build almost like a container out of snow with a hollowed out center section and real high sidewalls he's already smiling like a monkey eating crap on a frosted morning first time he's ever ran a cab forward design loader we'll see how he likes it it's a different feeling but i'll tell you guys i love it honestly i love being lined up with my bucket all the time i always know where it's at the machine feels more balanced i just like it did you guys sense that i like it did i already say that five times look at that goal god that's a nice machine you know i thought these cast loaders look at them they're gonna be smooth i thought these cast loaders were gonna be garbage and uh i was so wrong so long what do you think so far pretty cool man yeah yeah yeah i'm trying to think of like using it for uh job sites how heavy is this thing fifty four hundred pounds that's it yep i thought it would be probably eight yeah i know get that feeling in here you know dude my next one my mine is thirty four hundred pounds yeah it's you know like the size of a big lawnmower you can get a dump truck easy huh i loaded the i loaded the dump truck with mine well well tim is stacking snow and playing in the new mini loader with a compact loader or however bigger loader you guys want to call that i'm going to get the dirt monkey trailer down to the fenced in yard you can when you know when you're backing up you can always you can sense by how you hit it's closer we'll see if she hawks it's the hook time a charm oh yeah all right hit the button the trailer goes down i love my still well jack in all seriousness this is a steel well jack i don't think you guys can see that still well probably one of the best things i've love it that and aluminum ramps two my two favorite things man i am so spoiled after having that and aluminum ramps on a trailer [Music] have [Music] looks like somebody's having a really bad day what the heck is that oh that's a semi that's semi oh it's a dump truck that's a quad axle dump that's rolled oh dude big load of dirt blocking both intersections whoo that's not fun i i almost did that twice right there at same intersection i was coming down that intersection and all the air went out of my 1976 white lost an airline the brakes clammed up but i had a full load on and you think that truck's gonna stop no siree i don't know the brakes didn't work set tight enough i mean they would stop me fine otherwise but that truck was not stopping and i'm going and i go through that intersection and i make that turn and the truck starts going up like this and it goes back down and i'm looking out my window as i'm turning and i look down there's a bunch of kids in a car they're cheering me on the dirt's flying out the side of my box yeah that poor guy that's not a fun feeling man that one gets the heart of thumping how did that one happen landed right on the driver's side door too hope he's okay hope he's okay man oh they're trying to lift it [Applause] [Music] [Applause] all right so they're gonna put the dirt in a roll-off here well at least we found out he's okay right let's get back to building our snow so what our idea is is the hollow out the center of this giant pile of snow build up the outside walls put all of our equipment into the middle of it and then park something in front of it that way we know that they can't get at it from around the three sides and if they want to get at it they're gonna have to move our own equipment to do that so [Music] i bumped her put a mark right there but i'm feeling the beads i hit that side of the bucket right into the tire you get going a little fast sometimes real fast look here let's how are we doing over here oh yeah jim's shaping that up that looks good in there that's a snow bunker that'll last till may kind of fun it is fun if you get your uh window over too far and hit it you're like whoa you know you don't pay attention oh that's right this is your first time driving a cab forward loader yeah good morning the sledge is a cab backwards pass backwards this is cab forward which which would you buy which would you do i'm probably more used to a slide backwards yeah this i feel like if i'm in tight areas i really gotta get used to it see i like this better for tight areas yup if you feel like you know if you crank it too much you could really cause some damage you know if you're not uh you don't pay attention to i like it because you're always lined up with the front and then when you back up you just look where your back end is and then your back end is your direction and you don't worry about the front so it's almost like you have two built-in guides where with the other with the sledge and the cab on the back end everything is vice versa well that's probably you're left-handed that's so your whole world is pass backwards yeah so so you probably wouldn't like this normal person's kind of a loader a little more time in it all right we'll switch uh you start having attachments and i'll start cleaning up stuff on the [Music] that is the shortest set of forks we own i don't even know what the heck of the deal is with that those forks are like this long just doesn't make sense to me why we have them but we do [Music] so [Music] guess who turned 30 yesterday [Laughter] all right so what were you saying you had a buddy all right i got a buddy that you know does the landscaping snow removal kind of up in the maple grove area and apparently over the weekend they had they have three plow trucks that they run and over the weekend they had all three of the plows stolen off the front of them so and i mean they had them blocked in two they part they parked them like up against their uh their bosses like pull bar and they used as a shop right so it's not like they were sitting in a parking lot and the the video showed i guess they came up like threw a chain around you know around the hitches pulled the trucks out far enough where they could disconnect those so that they and they threw a chain around there pulled them out on all three of them and then like they i don't know what they got him out of there with because i guess he said the camera was only kind of looking at the trucks stole all their plows like it was on the news this morning they're using a tow truck yeah they're grabbing yeah what they're doing is they're grabbing the cars they'll pull them just a few blocks down the road where nobody's around yeah and then they'll cut the catalytic converters off i mean it was on the stupid news man yeah but i guess i haven't seen it i haven't seen the video or anything like that but he said it was like quick too it was like within 10 minutes they were they had them pulled out everything was off and gone down the road man if they only work that hard at a regular job regular job yeah right oh my god who doesn't say that right all right you guys everything is tucked away pretty decent but i don't even know if that's going to stop them and if they want it they'll figure out a way to do it hopefully this will just slow him down long enough but there we go snow bunker is done thanks to tim for coming on giving a hand sam's 30 birthday say happy birthday to sam why are you doing like and that's our video for today tim what did you think what what do you think of that loader i liked it yeah yeah i think it was pretty sweet it was fun to try out something new man it is it is it's pretty cool machine and on a side note this one sold in a day while i was actually still using it and the guy that bought it asked if i would do something a little special if i would sign the dash so there it is this one's getting shipped off to south carolina it's a good machine see you guys on another video hope you guys enjoyed this one we will catch you guys on the next one god bless go get him you guys see you guys [Music] dirt monkey out so far the snow bunkers worked good it's been about three weeks and nothing has been stolen knock on wood now watch my dogs are gonna go barking i am back to drinking coca-cola with coffee this is the vanilla flavor i was told to drink try the dark roast i did and it's amazing i just happen to have some extra of these left let's do a few shout outs brian coppola let's make sure that we get brian in there we've got bcg property maintenance and let's do a shout out to jeff skog from pro works landscaping if you guys want a shout out just say it down below and maybe in a future video we can get you a shout out and that's all we've got for you today god bless go get em you guys oh the board let's talk about the board for a quick sec you guys probably know this but everybody on this side of the board is given 10 to 15 percent off of everything on their website the top one is ballard products code dirt monkey force gets you 10 off next one down is cmp attachment so if you want a hydra bucket if you want anything on their website go there cujo yardwear they've…
