The Utility Locator Had Us Pulling Out Our Hair!...Dowsing Rods Saved Us!
What happens here
After the electronic locator's failure, the host's friend initially created small dowsing rods using short pieces of copper ground wire (from Romex) threaded through wooden beads, with the wire bent at a 90-degree angle for handles. While these smaller rods provided some results, they were deemed 'a little bit small' and possibly less effective. The improved version, shown by the host, uses longer pieces of copper wire (also from Romex) and handles made from short segments of 1/2-inch PEX pipe. The copper wire is bent at a 90-degree angle and inserted into the PEX handles, creating a freely rotating L-rod design. These larger, more robust dowsing rods are presented as the successful alternative.
Goal: Build effective dowsing rods for utility locating.
Tools and materials
- 1/2-inch PEX Pipe — Creating comfortable and free-moving handles for the improved dowsing rods
- Copper Ground Wire — Forming the L-shaped dowsing rods
- Wire Cutters/Pliers — Cutting and bending the copper wire
- Wooden Beads — Handles for the initial, smaller dowsing rods
