The RIGHT Way to Install a Wood Stove | Shop, Garage, Home or Metal Building
What happens here
Using a personnel lift, the team aligns the stove pipe vertically. The interior installer uses a laser pointer to mark the exact center of the pipe's path on the ceiling liner. He then draws a circle for the opening. Meanwhile, the exterior installer measures and marks the corresponding circular opening on the metal roof. He uses a DeWalt reciprocating saw to carefully cut the hole in the corrugated metal roof, removing insulation as he goes.
Goal: Create precise openings in the ceiling and roof for the chimney pipe.
Tools and materials

- Marker — Drawing the circular cutout on the ceiling liner and roof
- Measuring Tape — Accurately measuring the diameter of the pipe and marking the cut
- Personnel Lift Genie — Reaching high areas for pipe alignment and roof access
- Reciprocating Saw DeWalt — Cutting the circular opening in the metal roof
- Safety Helmets Petzl — Protecting heads from falling debris or impacts
- Work Gloves — Protecting hands from sharp metal edges
- Insulation — Removing from around the cut area to maintain clearances
