What happens here

Once the contoured edges are satisfactorily smoothed, the abrasive on the 3x4 orbital sander is swapped out. For the flat surfaces of the workpiece, a 'Film Tech plastic abrasive' is used. This type of abrasive, typically film-backed, provides a more rigid and consistent contact with flat areas, which is essential for achieving a perfectly flat and uniform finish. The goal is to eliminate any imperfections, swirls, or unevenness, preparing the surface for subsequent priming or painting.
