What happens here
Once the door frame is securely fastened, the shims that extend beyond the frame can be trimmed flush with a utility knife or oscillating multi-tool. Next, apply a continuous bead of low-expansion spray foam insulation into the gaps between the door frame and the rough opening. This provides an air and moisture seal, preventing drafts and improving energy efficiency. Be careful not to over-apply the foam, as it can bow the door frame if it expands too much. Allow the foam to cure according to the manufacturer's instructions. The video shows the interior of the building with exposed framing, implying these steps would be completed before interior finishing.
Goal: Seal the door unit for energy efficiency and weather protection.
