Suzie Cow is so spoiled! Moving the cows to new pasture...ALONE!

What happens here

To install the gate, two lag bolts (or lag screws) are required. The top lag bolt should be oriented with the eye facing downwards, and the bottom lag bolt with the eye facing upwards. The gate is temporarily positioned at the desired height to ensure it clears the ground. A pilot hole is drilled into the wooden fence post using a cordless drill with a drill bit sized slightly smaller than the lag bolt's shaft. The lag bolt is then started by hand and fully screwed in using an adjustable wrench until snug.

Goal: Securely attach the lag bolts to the wooden fence post.

Tools and materials

  • Adjustable Wrench — Tightening the lag bolts into the post
  • Cordless Drill DeWalt — Drilling pilot holes into the wooden post
  • Drill Bit — Creating pilot holes (sized slightly smaller than the lag bolt)
  • Lag Bolts — Acting as hinges for the gate
  • Wooden Fence Post — Anchor point for the gate hinges
