SOME TIPS FOR BUYING A USED SKID LOADER, SKID STEER OR BOBCAT
What happens here
Enter the operator's station and engage the track lock lever (often a safety bar that must be pulled down for controls to activate). Start the engine, listening for a smooth ignition and consistent idling. Check all dashboard gauges, such as the amp meter, temperature meter, and fuel gauge, to ensure they are responsive and functioning correctly. Allow the machine to warm up to its optimal operating temperature. Once warm, operate the bucket by raising, lowering, and articulating it (tilting it back and forth) gently. Observe for any jerky movements, unusual noises, or excessive play in the lift arms, which could indicate worn bushings or bearings. Test the responsiveness of all controls, noting any stiffness or unexpected delays. Pay attention to whether the machine has conventional foot/hand controls or modern joysticks, and ensure they feel comfortable and precise.
Goal: Verify the machine's starting, operational smoothness, and control responsiveness from the operator's seat.
