Sod day1 - Things don't go as planned

[Music] oh right it's a new day and we've got sod to lay we've got a truck hopefully coming by this afternoon so we're gonna go out start getting the site prepped and ready so when the sod shows up we can start throwing it out so let's just dive right into the day right good morning everybody so here's the plan we're up at Stan's I got to drop a couple things off grab a couple of things Blaine's out getting black dirt so we're gonna grab this stuff and meet them out there hopefully we should be getting out there about the same time yeah there's one part of it there's a hat [Music] [Applause] day today [Applause] [Music] if anybody from Akita is watching this you know send Stanley ten more batteries please [Music] we need my pride and joy hello beautiful you're looking really nice this Monday morning [Music] I'm alright we got that so I could girl piles full of crap let's get gone kind of funny I yeah I was worried I'm a lame who's gonna beat me out on to the site there but I hit the exit back there I don't know if you can see it he's always back but I grabbed first battery I grabbed in the garage was charged up and Blaine and I were gonna get out on the site at the same time good start yeah that's good-looking dirt there's no softball sized chunks in there okay so initially we were just sod in the back and leave it and she was gonna see this but now we got side all this so we got shave a decent amount of this down [Music] before they can side they've got some additional grading to do but before that can happen they got to get the machine greased for the day and I've never met anyone that takes as much pride increasing a piece of equipment as Sam [Music] oh I came shooting out of there well this thing saves me so much time I can't remember on here but I think there's a couple of goofy ones on the bottom you lift that up for me there alright he's got the lat bar up so I won't get crushed huh [Music] they've got to cut in a swale so you want to direct all of the water to the far back right corner of the property [Music] they also take down any weird little ridges to make sure there's a smooth transition from the existing turf to the new sod that gets himself and of course Sam wants his turn to play in the ASB since it is his favorite vehicle of all time Harlan engine sequence I swear to god sometimes I think Sam would take that machine home and keep it inside of his bedroom if he could one time I put him in the ball bowl to snowplow you would have thought I stole his favorite GI Joe right out of his hands somebody asked me about the visibility and the ASB and the only machine that I ran that has better visibility is that bobble with the single mono boat otherwise this thing has an almost unobstructed view [Music] game over the soil here is real good I'll go start raking those racks out we're going up front now right okay [Music] how's the nerve-wracking shot right there nail-biter hey to keep the street clean and the new black dirt that's gonna get spread uncontaminated the boys will raise the box then Sam will sit inside of the truck and hold his foot on the brake with the truck in neutral to make sure he takes all the pressure off from the parking gear as they scoop into the box we could haul the side ourselves but sometimes on bigger projects we just have it deliver because that frees us up to concentrate on getting everything prepped before the sod shows up and sometimes that doesn't work and we just got a call from the side guy this is supposed to be delivered this afternoon but now apparently he's not gonna be able to get it here until nine ish tomorrow morning which is coincidentally about the time that the inspector is is supposed to come to sign off on this project so that's alright though it'll give us today to really get this great dialed in and our black dirt all nice and prep so we can just pound it out in the morning but that also means we've lost the date that could let us get to the next job all right and while Blaine's up there scraping that down I'm gonna do a quick little preliminary cleanup here I'm gonna be trying out this new Makita battery-powered system so yeah little blower the power boom Sam always manages to keep himself busy when he's out on the project [Music] and while Blaine is prepping the great Sam is getting the cleanup start alright so turn around what works Racine doesn't necessarily work for side because sod comes with its own amount of black dirt we've got to scrape down and compensate for that all right we are all buttoned up for the day I got my clean up all taken care of as clean as it needs to be today since we're going to be back tomorrow the back yard is all good to go ready for sad the grade is all buttoned up the grade is where it needs to be in the front yard here too we haven't put the black dirt down on that yet we're gonna get the backyard all sided and then work our way back out to the street so that we're not running over the black dirt while we're running pallets aside back there because you want to get it all packed down that kind of defeats the purpose of putting the black dirt down so we're going to just work our way all right well I guess everything didn't go quite the way we had planned it out but tomorrow that truck is going to be there and if it's not it's not the end of the world because then we'll go to the sod if the side if the truck can't bring the sod to us we'll bring the truck to the side and make sure that it gets out to our job site so you guys the next video you see will be the wrap-up to
