this is part two the to be continued from the silent video I made just the other day come on with me morning boys and girls that's Josh Tony Ridge farmer welcome to the farm vlog today today I'm going to talk to you a little bit about what I do to winterize my lawn you might have seen that little silent video that I did the other day well I was out here on our new grass and on some of the old grass that we have already established and I'm trying to get the lawn winterized and what I do to make it green make it pop and make it pop in the springtime too we want to keep our lawn well taken care of so that we have a beautiful place to look at so come on with me today and I'll tell you what I do what I use some of the products that I use here on the lawn and here on the pasture that's out here and from the house with the brand-new grass on it some of the things that I'm gonna do to make this grass pop so come and join me here on the farm vlog today we'll take it and I'll show you how I'm winter rise my lawn and my little pasture area here close to the house so this is how to winterize your lawn okay woo [Music] so first thing you need to know is I got some cool new bamboo sunglasses they're awesome there's a link down there below to my Amazon store you'll find these little bamboo sunglasses I never saw wooden sunglasses before I had to show it off anyhow so green grass like this just doesn't happen on accident this happens this is purposeful it's all purposeful every piece on the farm every tree on the farm every blade of grass all of this stuff happens purposefully so I'll show you what I put on the lawn to get it ready for winter we have here lime okay so here in the South my pH of my soil one I moved here was four okay in case you don't know about soil and about soil pH four is not good for is very acidic for is not good for growing grass in order to correct that pH we have to use lime stone and basically we get a pelletized lime stone right here it is you can purchase this stuff at Walmart or wherever you want to go whatever retailer you want to go to Lowe's Walmart most time Walmart has the best price because they can buy it in bulk and we spread this very very heavily over the whole lawn something else you need to know as we spread it very heavily over the whole farm now the way we spread this stuff on past year is way different than the way we spread it on our lawn we don't want those big heavy trucks riding through our yard but we do have big heavy trucks that we can have bring lime out and normally they'll bring lime out and we do it at least once a year sometimes twice a year for really trying to bring that pH up and get that grass growing good on reestablished new pasture will put down three tons to the acre my yard is currently about two acres and basically we're not going to put that much lime down okay we're just doing routine maintenance and the routine maintenance is we're gonna put about 250 pounds of lime down on my two-acre yard right here and just do a little bit of lawn maintenance and we also have a high nitrogen winter rising type fertilizer that we're gonna put down I'll show you that so the winterizing type fertilizer I use is this right here it is 28 to 3 and the way this works is 28% nitrogen 2% phosphate and 3% potash so when you get a bag of fertilizer something you might not know flip the bag over and read the back of it here's what it says it basically gives me a chart and we have the earth way brand and it tells me what setting to put your spreader on now depending on the time of year and what your preferences are you'll adjust your spreader to spread the amount of fertilizer that you want to put out on your lawn and today we're gonna put it on pretty heavy we're gonna put 5 bags of this fertilizer down on our to a curried lawn and we're also gonna put five bags of limestone down on our lawn and this is a pelletized type limestone now what are we use on our new grass it's different what we use on the new grass is going to be way different than what we use on the old grass let me show you on our new grass we use at eighteen twelve two and the reason we use the eighteen twelve to is because it's a little bit lower nitrogen content and it has that phosphorus and that phosphorus or phosphate is what's going to help our roots to get established really well so you want a good high quality fertilizer with a good phosphate content in order to build your root structure on brand-new grass and this is our brand new grass this was planted mmm somewhere around a month maybe six weeks ago something like that amazing amazing how it's come up I'll put triple 17 fertilizer on it at first and now I'm just doing a few touch-ups with the fertilizer that I have here now now how this works as it pertains to your lawn is some areas may be browner than other areas it may be because of the type of grass but we're gonna go heavy on the fertilizer heavy on the lime and in the springtime this lawn we'll just pop it'll be awesome and beautiful and that's how I winter rise my lawn so I'm going to take you around well basically get out here get a little bit of exercise today will push my little handheld spreader all around here I've got big spreaders for big tractors but I don't want to ride my big tractor in my lawn so we're pushing around a little spreader fix our lawn up and get it ready for winter guys if your landscaper and you have any more professional type thoughts or criticisms please post them down below if you do other things on your lawn and you live in this same area or you have very acidic soil post that information down below give me some thumbs up click the little bell if you want to keep watching this tiny ridge farm if you're not subscribed
