Test for Readiness & Fill Jars

Simple preserves: How to make blackberry Jam and Jelly!
What happens here
To test for readiness, place a small amount of the hot jam/jelly onto a room-temperature plate. Allow it to cool for a minute, then gently push it with your finger. If it wrinkles and solidifies, it is ready. If not, continue cooking for a few more minutes and retest. Once ready, remove the pot from heat. Using a canning funnel, ladle the hot jam/jelly into the sterilized jars, leaving about 1/2 inch of headspace (the space from the top of the mixture to the rim of the jar). If making jelly, you will first strain the cooked mixture (see next step). Wipe any spills from the jar rims with a clean paper towel. Retrieve a warm canning lid (using the magnetic grabber to avoid touching the rubber gasket) and place it on the jar. Secure with a canning ring and tighten as much as possible by hand.
Goal: Check the jam/jelly's consistency, then carefully ladle the hot mixture into sterilized jars, leaving appropriate headspace, and seal them.
