What happens here
In extremely hot summer conditions (over 90 degrees Fahrenheit), the water in the exposed black poly pipe can heat up significantly, causing air bubbles to form. These air bubbles travel uphill and can cause the siphon to lose prime. To address this, a drill pump can be periodically connected to the priming valve to run water through the system, burping out any accumulated air and restoring the siphon's function.
Goal: Maintain siphon prime during hot summer months.
Tools and materials
- Black Poly Pipe — The water line susceptible to heating and air bubble formation
- Drill Pump — Re-priming the siphon system by pumping out air
- Priming Valve — Connection point for the drill pump to re-prime the system
