What happens here

This project details an electrician's work day, focusing on two critical electrical upgrades: replacing a strained main electrical meter socket with a new 320 Amp unit, and installing a new GFCI-protected outlet in a basement for a water softener. The process involves handling high-voltage service, extending utility wires with an expansion coupling, running new circuits, and making connections at the main electrical panel. This work is highly specialized and dangerous, requiring professional expertise.

All right, day in the life of an electrician on an important service call. So, let's get right to it. So, first thing we do today, a customer called and said they got a strained meter socket. As you can see right here, we're putting in a new 320 amp meter socket. This is the old socket. You can see the hot bar was busted. [music] So, we're installing right now a 320 amp new meter socket. I'm holding the electric meter right now by the utility >> [music] >> and we extended the wires because the previous PVC conduit didn't have an expansion coupling. So, we installed an expansion coupling and we butt spliced the utility wires to make them longer. Make sure to check your state if you can do this. In New Jersey, you're allowed. All right, new meter socket complete. Now, we're on to the second job. So, the same customer requested that he wanted a new outlet installed because he was tired of having an extension cord for his water softener. So, I'm installing right now a new GFCI outlet because all outlets in a basement, guys, need to be GFCI protected. So, [music] I'm right now installing the outlet and as you can see, I ran a new circuit. Here is my single pole breaker and my hot wire, my neutral wire, my ground. I ran 14-2 Romex to the new outlet and boom, guys, it's all finished. Both jobs complete, customer satisfied and that's what a day looks like as an electrician.
