RIVERFRONT BACKYARD BUILD Pt 5 - Fixing Mistakes and Deck Details
What happens here
The existing deck framing contained a measurement error, requiring the joists to be shortened by approximately 1 to 1.5 inches to ensure the border board fits seamlessly. For joists in tight bays where a circular saw cannot access, use a reciprocating saw (Sawzall) to make the cuts. For more accessible joists, a circular saw can be used. In addition, existing concrete posts that support the deck's structure need to be cut down and precisely notched to properly accommodate the new stringers and integrate with the adjusted framing. Ensure the concrete cuts are level using a level and marked with a tape measure. This modification is crucial before re-installing the existing stair set.
Goal: Shorten deck joists and modify concrete posts for proper fit of border and stairs.
