It's not really wood. It looks like wood, but it's just made of ground wood fibers, glue, just some kind of pressed paper on top of it. And when it gets wet, it swells up, starts to crumble, starts to break down, deteriorates. We wash it with water. The original paint is 20 years old, and this has a lot of heat and water damage.
