Quick Fix Bad Cabinet Handle Installation!
What happens here
Because the cabinet door has raised trim pieces, drilling directly from the front with a larger bit might cause chipping. To prevent this, use a smaller 5/64ths inch drill bit to create a pilot hole from the inside of the cabinet door, drilling through the mark made by the spring-loaded punch. Once the pilot hole is through, switch to a larger 3/16ths inch drill bit and drill from the front of the cabinet door, using the pilot hole as a guide, to create the final size hole. This technique minimizes the risk of damaging the finished side of the cabinet.
Goal: Create cleanly drilled holes for the new cabinet hardware without damaging the cabinet finish.
