What happens here
Construct the first step frame by assembling two 4x6 pressure-treated lumber pieces for the sides and one for the front. Secure these pieces together using lag bolts and a drill. The lumber is pressure-treated to resist rot, which is essential as it will be in contact with the ground. Position the assembled frame in the excavated base. Use a spirit level to ensure the frame is perfectly level from side-to-side and front-to-back. Adjust the underlying soil or add gravel as needed to achieve a perfectly level foundation. This first frame is critical as it sets the level for all subsequent steps.
Goal: Build a level and rot-resistant base for the first step
