hey folks that fix a guy here and welcome to another tool review tuesday today we're going to be looking at my favorite utility knife it's simple it's classic it's the stanley 99e right there's many modeled after this but they're not this tool right these things are awesome they are super simple they really only break down into four parts minus the blades and i really want to show it to you today so come along let's get to fixing [Music] [Applause] okay so this is utility knives okay so these are all utility knives i'll be shooting utility knife comparison here in the near future but for right now we're just going to be talking about this stanley 99e this stanley 99e is my favorite utility knife you know i always carry a leatherman or i'll have my everyday carry but this is always in my tool bag like you just want to be able to have the versatility of this disposable blade and there's so many different things that you can use this for on a job site that you just always want to have one of these bad boys and so i'll show you like this is a very simple one right this is not top of the line these days with the comfort grip and all that stuff i mean this is just a classic awesome utility knife so let me show you what's up with this bad boy so first off we can just take this apart you can actually take it apart with either a phillips head or a flat head like you can see that right there that either a phillips or a flat you're gonna be able to take this apart so i already have it on flathead let's just not go ahead and switch that over right and we can go ahead and pop that bad boy right off of there and you can see this comes apart this is essentially a a three-piece utility knife right if you go well i guess four if you count the screw maybe five if you count a blade right but it's essentially these four pieces right here is what makes up this utility knife they're awesome this is just like a cast metal right they they make these i think in plastic as well but these are cast metal it's not gonna break on you so with this it also has a storage bin in the bottom so that little storage bin you could hook up and hold some extra blades you could actually hold quite a few blades if you wanted i usually only put a couple in there at a time i don't really see it being a big benefit have it stacked full but you could you could put a lot of blades in there um let's just see how many blades it actually will hold so i have a thing of blades right here and let's just pop some out and see how many it actually is gonna hold so because it has this little nub right here on this side and these two nubs right here that's about how many you're gonna hold in there and that right there is let's count them off one two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven i bet it would hold twelve i bet it will hold twelve in there i bet you can i bet that's about as many as you're going to put in there now you could probably hold 12 if you really wanted to but you can see that it's starting to bulge out a little bit so 11 in the clip one in the chamber pretty awesome like i said i don't typically have this many in here i usually carry about three but hey we've got them pulled out of this little container i don't want to try to put them back in there so this right here is actually it's a hundred pack blade dispenser and you know i just bought this because when you're doing a lot of stuff like cutting out old carpet you're taking trim out different things like that you want to have a lot of these blades it's nice to have disposable blades especially when you're cutting caulk off a tile floors and stuff you're going to dull these really fast so you know just always have them so the next thing is now that you've got this stocked and loaded well let's put it together right this is how you put a blade in so if you take this and you just line it up you can see right there that little divot goes right in there and the whole thing just kind of lines up you can see it just all fits together right there right so it's just going to clip in place and then you just set that down in there at the very last setting so it's just easy i wanted to show one more cool feature of this which is using both sides of this blade so when you use this side of the blade and it's dull well then you can just take this flip it over put it back in and now you're able to use this side of the blade and then when you're done you can dispose of it and put a new one in pretty sweet see those little divots so if you just take that and you set this down in the last very last one well then it's just going to sit up in there really nice then you're able to take the top of the case you'll just put it back over the top set it there put a screw in screw it back down and you're ready to use it another nice feature about this utility knife is the retractable blade these divots right here are actually how you set the retractable blade to the depth that you want for instance if you wanted to cut boxes you don't have to have the blade out this much you just simply take it to that right there and now you're only going to cut the top of the box or cut the tape off the box the way that you want to to use this utility knife you're simply going to take your thumb and you're going to push down a little bit on this button and that's going to allow you to go up and you'll be able to feel the divots right when you start to slide it back it'll want to just pop in place and that'll allow you to get the depth that you want actually putting 12 blades in this makes it pretty heavy but now you're ready to go man like this thing it's ready to cut whatever you need i'll give you a couple examples say you need to take the door of this trim off well what you would do is you just take your knife score that caulk line so you don't end up pulling the paint out and then you're able to pop that off without actually doing too much damage right there so you'd also use your utility knife to separate the toilet from the flooring if you've caulked your toilet right and so then you just go give it a cut so you could also use your utility knife to score some drywall right so you just give it a cut and then it just breaks right off look at that sweet it's good for everything around your house right you didn't have scissors you needed to cut some strap or some twine or some yarn well this is gonna do it i mean heck if you needed to cut a lime for your favorite drink well can do that too okay so that is the stanley 99e this is a classic utility knife right there's a reason why so many manufacturers remake this thing right make some variant of it well i really hope this video helped i hope that it gave you an understanding and just showed you a reliable tool that i use time and time again right i might carry a leatherman or a pocket knife but i always have one of these in my tool bag i really hope this video helped if you could please
