Pool Apron Paver Patio + Firepit
What happens here
After the sub-base is excavated and compacted, a layer of geotextile fabric (if used) is laid down. This is followed by spreading a layer of crushed stone, which serves as the main base material, typically 4 to 8 inches deep depending on traffic and soil conditions. This base layer must be thoroughly compacted using a plate compactor in multiple passes. On top of the compacted base, a thin layer (typically 1 inch) of screeding sand is spread and leveled precisely using screed rails and a screed board. This bedding sand provides a perfectly flat and smooth surface for the pavers.
Goal: Create a stable and level base for the pavers.
Tools and materials
- Crushed Stone — Creating the primary structural base of the patio
- Geotextile Fabric — Separating the sub-base from the soil and preventing weed growth
- Leveling Sand — Creating a smooth and level bedding layer for pavers
- Plate Compactor — Compacting the crushed stone base
- Rake — Spreading aggregate materials evenly
- Screed Board — Leveling the bedding sand layer
- Screed Rails — Guiding the screed board to achieve a uniform sand layer
