What happens here
Measure the precise dimensions (height and width) of the hole in the drywall. On a scrap piece of drywall, use a pencil and a speed square or ruler to accurately mark out a patch that is slightly larger than the hole. The patch should overlap the existing drywall by at least 1 inch on all sides. Score the drywall deeply along the marked lines with a utility knife, then carefully snap the drywall to create clean, straight cuts for the patch. Finally, cut through the paper backing on the opposite side to separate the patch.
